To be honest it was only ever going to be insomnia which gave me the time to ever blog again.
It's 0100 and I have a date with the treadmill at 0630 but when swimming ends at 2200 it can take a while for the sandman to make a visit.
To recap:
Working and training is tough - it's taken me the best part of three months to get my head around managing both as it's been a long time since I had a job I genuinely wanted to be good at and was trying to balance 20 hours plus of training around it. Psychologically I've found it difficult to meter out my time effectively and spent most of December and January hitting the sessions that were supposed to be easy hard and then feeling crap and sorry for myself during the sessions that were supposed to be hard. I think the arrival of spring may have had some impact but the last two blocks have been really positive and I'm starting to feel very positive about the season ahead.
Light John = fast John - the fears I had last season that I was a tubby git (by IM standards) have been proven by me losing ~5kg and hitting a huge HM PB of 73 minutes at Bath. I haven't run this well since pre-South Africa 2009 when I looked like I'd given up food for lent but this time my swimming and biking are also there or there abouts.
New bike! - I am not the proud owner of new TT bike, named Jane. I'll leave it at that as she'll be the subject of her own blog in due course.
The year of the training camp - I won't be racing abroad this year but instead will be spending a week in South Africa, two weeks with the fantastic Sam and Lee at TriTopia and then two weeks in Boulder where I finally get to meet in person the man who puts me through so much pain, AC, my coach. In a little over a week the bad tan lines and burnt scalp (I have lost a considerable amount of hair since I last blogged!) can make a more than welcome return.
Role on summer!
